"Everything that happens to me on an emotional level, fills me and transmits to my work. As a child, I was fascinated by fabrics, colors, textures, the world around me. Fabrics are like feelings: transparent, rustic, subtle, soft, happy, sad."
"I am from Cardenas, Matanzas in the western part of Cuba. I grew up surrounded by threads, fabrics and tubes of paint of all the women in my family who sewed wonderfully.
"I studied painting at the Matanzas Art School and earned a degree in Graphic Design at the National School of Design in Havana. Years later, I went to Germany and studied industrial ceramic design at the Bauhaus and at the school of Meissen.
"My work is characterized by the introduction of different techniques, procedures, and materials. In the same work, I mix painting and collage; the sum of elements and textures gives me a particular language. I seek originality and life, expressing joys and anguishes. I seek the fabric we use each day to make our existence. I make things with a desperate message; others, when I am happy, are very different.
"I cannot live without love. Everything that happens to me is related to spiritual life and love. When I am in love with someone and that person feels the same for me, I am happy. I like to sleep in the arms of the person I love; that renews me. I hate monotony and tedium in love. I am very curious. I believe it is very important to experience new things, something different every day, and to learn to appreciate these things.
"Freedom of expression is essential for an artist. I believe there is much more openness now. Things are analyzed and those that are wrong are criticized. It is evident not only in visual arts, but also in the movies and music; it is very good.
"I am constantly thankful for my work as a painter. I believe it is very important to enjoy what one does, no matter what it is.
