Elias Acosta is a painter, designer and professor of painting and drawing in Cienfuegos, Cuba. He is a superior-level graduate of the National School of Arts and teaches art on the high school and college levels.
His work is constantly evolving. Current paintings suggest an attempt to attach a spiritual, ethereal element on and around his figures.
Elias has received numberous prizes and mentions in provincial art competitions; he has authored a number of personal exhibitions with works in Spain, United States, Belgium and France, among others. A young and earnest teacher/artist, Elias was recently chosen to create large-size paintings to enhance several government buildings in his home city of Cienfuegos. He is an artist who is not afraid to experiment.
The first few times we (the collectors) visited with Elias in his Cientuegos studio, he was not using titles on his work.
In Cuba, it is not traditional to "name" your art; the artists preferring to leave any interpretation to the observer. However, because of pressure in recent years from the relatively new phenomenon of foreign art tourism, many Cuban artists, like Elias, are now assigning titles to their art.
