"I live with my art; neither by my art nor for my art."

"Academic painters can not accept that a painter who did not graduate from San Alejandro Academy or the Superior Institute of Arts, sells his paintings at prices similar to theirs.  Sometimes intuitive painters, those who did not attend academy, are more creative and talented than academic painters.

"I consider my style unique.  When somebody sees one of my paintings, he or she says:  "It is obviously a Crispin painting."  Once I was staring at one of my paintings and an old woman came close to me and said: What a great children's painting!  How well they paint!  It is wonderful!  I told her: "I am the child who made that painting", and she asked me, "Really?"  Then I said to her:   "I am a big boy; when I stop being a boy I shall stop painting."

Roberto Crispin Sarra, paraphrased from Magic Art in Cuba, Gerald Mouial
